Our History

Village Family Dental began in 1985 as a small-town dental office founded by Dr. Michael Knowles in St. Pauls, North Carolina. Driven by a commitment to improve access to quality care in rural communities, we pioneered a new model of dentistry — the Family Dental Group Practice.

Rather than referring patients out to specialists miles away, we brought the specialists to our patients. By partnering with top dental professionals who could treat patients directly in our offices, we ensured more convenient, coordinated, and compassionate care.

In 1992, Dr. Terrance Smith, prosthodontist, joined the practice, and our legal name became Knowles, Smith and Associates, P.A. — though we continued doing business as Village Family Dental.

Growth soon followed:

Our second office opened in Hope Mills in 1993.
By 1999, we had completed our third office in Fayetteville.
Dr. Faith McGibbon, pediatric dentist, joined in 1994 and became a partner in 2002.

Today, our Partnership Group includes Dr. Brad Ryan, Dr. Grant Wiles, Dr. Mit Patel, Dr. Jordan Olsen, and Dr. Anuj James, who serves as Managing Partner. Founders Dr. Knowles, Dr. Smith, and Dr. McGibbon have since retired, leaving behind a lasting legacy of excellence and service.

Over the years, the Village Family Dental network has expanded to include:

Southeastern Dental Specialists and Dental Health Associates (added in 2002)
Village Kids of High Point (added in 2018)
Village Kids of Lumberton (our newest addition)

This year, we proudly celebrate 40 years of serving North Carolina families. From one small-town practice to a growing network of offices across the state, our mission remains the same: to deliver exceptional, patient-centered care — close to home.
